| Tuesday, May 23, 2006 - Announcing the Imagine Cup 2006 Online Finalists
Tens of thousands of students representing countries in every corner of the world have stepped up to the Imagine Cup 2006 Challenge and now the results are in! After several months of competition over two rounds, the list of worldwide finalists has been determined and will assemble to compete for the title of world champion in their respective invitational later this year in India.Students competed against their peers in six invitationals designed to challenge even the sharpest technical minds. Those categories include Software Design, Algorithm, Interface Design, IT, Short Film, and Project Hoshimi. Finalists from each category will square off before a panel of judges in Delhi, India, to showcase their work. This year’s theme challenged the world’s top young minds to "Imagine a world where technology enables us to live healthier lives."
And the finalists are.
There are six finalists in the Algorithm category where students put their problem solving skills to the test. The finalists include pmnox/Poland, Grey/Russia, Psyho/Poland, Nudelbrotsuppe/Germany, TPReal/Poland, and r1cs1/Hungary. For these lucky few the competition will consist of a 24-hour onsite challenge against a series of very difficult problems to determine the global champion.
Short Film competitors participated as a team. A total of six teams will travel to India and will also compete in a 24-hour filmmaking challenge. The top eight teams are Team Forest/Canada, Team Echo/United States, Team Skylined/Poland, Team LDLC/United States, Team Saint/Taiwan, and Team Ottomans/Turkey.
Interface Design is a brand new category for the Imagine Cup, where students also competed in a team structure. The teams advancing are FrontfreeStudio-UI/China, johanna08/France, UniCore/Romania, Virtual Dreams/Brazil, Moha/Jordan, and Avenger’s/India. Finalists will now be judged on a combination of their past scores and an onsite competition.
After solving a series of challenging business questions, the top six students advancing in the IT competition are atomek/Austria, danymag/France, valygreavu/Romania, fduca/France, hernanlionel/Italy, and gabic/Romania.
Project Hoshimi is a programming battle where students compete in different scenarios designed to test their programming prowess. Six teams stood out from the rest to earn the trip to the finals and a chance at being named worldwide champion. Those are Royal Air Force/Serbia and Montenegro, Team Lya/France, .PG/Japan, Psyho/Poland, Atomnium/France, and Sunshineking/China. You’ll notice that Psyho from Poland pulled the amazing feat of qualifying for the finals in two events!
